Laurie Plouffe graduated from the University of Alberta in 2002 with her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (with distinction). She has worked in private practice in the Edmonton area since then, and has been with Belmead Physical Therapy since April 2006. Since graduating Laurie has taken many postgraduate specialty courses including Level 3 of the orthopedic division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Spinal Manipulation, Certified in Acupuncture through the Acupucture of Canada Institute, Gunn Intra-Muscular Stimulation (IMS), and various other courses for orthopedic treatment and exercise. Special areas of interest include motor vehicle accidents, sports, tempromandibular joint dysfunction and chronic pain, which she has treated both with IMS and acupuncture and has seen more favorable results than with conventional treatments.
Laurie also likes to spend her time doing many outdoor activities, and is an avid runner and triathlete. She is a five time Ironman finisher, working on number six for August 2007, and has also competed in marathons, triathlons, and duathlons of various distances. She is also a member of the Cops for Cancer team, which through training for Ironman Canada and various other events raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends on her time off, and especially looks forward to hanging out with her running partner and dog as much as possible.
